9-day itinerary
A 9-day Philippines itinerary
Nine days is short for an archipelago. Once you account for arrival, jet lag and the flight home, you have roughly seven usable days. The only way to enjoy them is to accept two islands and turn them into two real stops rather than four brief stopovers.
Why this pace works
- Two stops only: one internal travel day instead of three.
- Around four nights per stop, which leaves room if the weather pushes a boat trip.
- A buffer night in Manila on arrival so an international delay does not cost you a lagoon day.
- One domestic flight and one fast ferry — enough to see two very different landscapes.
Islands
2 stops
- El Nido
- Coron
Day-by-day example
A concrete example, not a template to copy blindly: ferry and domestic flight schedules change with the season.
Day 1
Manila
Arrival, night near the airport. Nothing else is planned.
Day 2
Flight to El Nido
Morning flight, check in, quiet end of day on the beach.
Days 3–5
El Nido
One boat day in Bacuit Bay, one beach day on the Nacpan side, one free day kept as weather margin.
Day 6
Ferry to Coron
Fast ferry, arrival early afternoon, sunset from the viewpoint.
Days 7–8
Coron
Lakes and lagoons at first light, wreck snorkelling or diving the next day.
Day 9
Departure
Morning Coron–Manila flight, international connection in the afternoon or evening.
Transfer times to plan for
- Manila → El Nido by air: budget 5 to 7 hours door-to-door, not the flight time.
- El Nido → Coron by fast ferry: roughly 5 to 6 hours door-to-door once check-in and land transfers are counted.
- Coron → Manila by air: plan the whole half-day, and never on the same day as a tight international flight.
- Boat trips get cancelled for wind: keep a free day rather than a full programme.
Mistakes to avoid on nine days
- Adding a third island: it costs a full travel day and a half-used hotel night.
- Chaining the international arrival and a domestic flight on the same day.
- Booking hotels before checking how the two islands connect.
- Planning a boat trip the day before the flight home.
Possible variations
Diving version
Swap the El Nido beach day for two wreck days in Coron: same transfers, far more underwater.
Visayas version
Cebu + Bohol instead of Palawan: shorter transfers, less dramatic lagoons.
Slow version
One single island for the nine days. It scores highest on Filiscore, and often makes the better memory.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I see Palawan and the Visayas in 9 days?
- Technically yes, but it adds two flights and a night in Manila or Cebu. On nine days that means spending close to a third of the trip in transit.
- How many islands should I visit in 9 days in the Philippines?
- Two. Three stays feasible if the last two stops are linked by a direct flight, but the pace becomes tight and leaves little weather margin.
