3-week itinerary
A three-week Philippines itinerary
Three weeks is the length that finally lets you slow down. Four to five islands stay coherent; from six onwards the trip becomes a run of transfers again, even over twenty-one days.
Why this pace works
- Four to five stops of three to five nights, with no two-night stop.
- Two regions, Palawan then the Visayas, with a single long transfer between them.
- Enough margin for one full rest day per week.
- Neighbouring islands are linked by ferry, regions by air.
Islands
5 stops
- El Nido
- Boracay
- Bohol
- Siquijor
- Camiguin
Day-by-day example
Example over 21 days. With 19 days, remove an island rather than shortening every stop.
Day 1
Manila
Arrival, buffer night.
Days 2–6
El Nido
Bacuit, Nacpan, a free day, possibly an organised overnight camp.
Days 7–10
Coron
Lakes, wrecks, nearby islands and one empty day.
Day 11
Flight to Cebu
Travel day, night in Cebu or straight down south.
Days 12–14
Moalboal / south Cebu
Sardines, waterfalls, diving.
Days 15–18
Bohol
Panglao or Anda, Chocolate Hills, Balicasag, the river.
Days 19–20
Siquijor
Island loop, waterfalls, one last quiet beach.
Day 21
Departure
Ferry then flight from Cebu, with a margin night if the flight is early.
Transfer times to plan for
- El Nido → Coron: 5 to 6 hours door-to-door by fast ferry.
- Coron → Cebu: a full day, almost always with a connection.
- South Cebu → Bohol → Siquijor: two half-days, never on the same day.
- Siquijor → Cebu airport: plan a night in Cebu before an early international flight.
Mistakes to avoid
- Chasing six or seven islands because the length 'allows' it: the pace goes back to a ten-day trip.
- Booking every night in advance over three weeks, with no weather flexibility.
- Putting two consecutive travel days in the middle of the trip.
- Forgetting the safety night before the flight home.
Possible variations
Four-island version
Drop Siquijor and lengthen Bohol and El Nido: the best comfort-to-variety trade-off.
Northern version
Swap the Visayas for northern Luzon: long road transfers, completely different landscapes.
Diving version
Coron, Moalboal, Apo Island and Anda: four stops, one theme, very little wasted time.
Frequently asked questions
- How many islands should I visit in 3 weeks in the Philippines?
- Four to five stay coherent. Six or more speeds the trip up sharply: each extra island costs a travel day and two half-days of settling in.
- Should everything be booked in advance over three weeks?
- Domestic flights and the first nights, yes. The rest can stay flexible: over three weeks, weather and mood change the plan at least once.
