  My second major favourite, on the same level as Chellie Rose. This small boutique hotel has superb rooms, excellent service, a very good restaurant and an absolutely incredible view. It also provides convenient access to Limasawa and Pintuyan, where whale sharks can be observed in the wild. I enjoyed the atmosphere so much that I extended my stay and regretted having to leave.

  My favourite hotel of the year. At around PHP 5,000–6,000 during my stay, it offered an exceptional location, rooms and setting. A genuine revelation.

  An excellent five-star hotel when available for around €100 per night. Beautiful rooms, a gigantic pool, several restaurants and very good service: a reliable choice in Camiguin.

  A little-known address and one of my best surprises. It is more remote and its beach is less attractive than Coco Grove's, but the 110–140 m² rooms, restaurant and pool are exceptional. Personally, I prefer it to Coco Grove.

  On booking platforms the name is written as one word: TheSeaAndYou.

  I discovered it when it opened, with an exceptional promotional price of around €100 per night, compared with almost twice that now. It is a very modern five-star property with a boutique-hotel feel, extensive raw concrete design and remarkable service. I also enjoyed complimentary access to their sandbar, where you can spend an exceptional part of the day.

  A simpler property, similar to a good three-star hotel. The restaurant is excellent, the pool very pleasant and the other services are up to standard. Its main drawback is the small size of the rooms, which are designed more for sleeping than spending time in.

  It is the fashionable hotel in Bantayan and the service is good. However, I found it a little small and its beach was not always very clean. A good property, but not a personal favourite.

  A decent property, but rather disorganised during my visit. The beach restaurant is pleasant and several activities are available, including jet skiing. However, the beach appears partly artificial and the resort still lacked cohesion following its change of ownership.

  The rooms are simple and the property is beginning to show its age. However, it is particularly appealing for families, with its route through the rocks, beautiful beach and good food. In the Camotes Islands, it remains an address worth considering.

  The beach, food and service would almost deserve 11/10. Unfortunately, the rooms are ageing and prices have risen sharply: around €100 per night four years ago versus often €225 now depending on the dates. At that price, the value for money is no longer there.

  My lowest score in this selection. The resort is enormous, too far from everything and requires shuttle buses that are not always frequent. The main pools and beach are also far from the rooms. The layout is inconvenient, highly exposed to the sun and lacks shade. Probably worthwhile for golfers, much less so for everyone else.

  During my stay, the hotel had just been taken over and was in poor condition. Several restaurants were closed, many dishes were unavailable and some facilities were poorly maintained. The rooms are very large, but even the terrace spa needed serious renovation. After refurbishment this hotel could become exceptional; at the time of my visit, it did not deserve a higher score.
