Apo Island
One of the country's oldest marine sanctuaries, and still one of its best turtle dives.
Apo Island off Dauin, near Dumaguete, has been a community-managed marine sanctuary since the 1980s, making it one of the longest-running conservation success stories in the Philippines — the reef health and turtle density here reflect four decades of consistent protection. It's a straightforward day trip from Dumaguete or Dauin's dive resorts, and one of the very few places where I tell clients the hype is fully justified.

My personal recommendation
I always book the earliest boat slot from Dauin, ideally before 08:00 — Apo Island gets a steady flow of day-trip boats from Dumaguete and Siquijor by late morning, and the difference in the water between 07:30 and 11:00 is significant.
