Canigao Island
A sandbar island off Matalom with a house reef better than most resort destinations.
Canigao is a small crescent-shaped island off Leyte's southwest coast near Matalom, with a genuinely excellent fringing reef that drops off close to shore. It sits well off the usual Leyte tourist path — most visitors are local weekenders from Cebu or Ormoc rather than international travellers, which keeps the reef in noticeably better condition than busier snorkel spots.

Weekends bring local day-trippers from Ormoc and it can feel busy by local standards — I always schedule this as a weekday visit, and the difference in crowd levels is night and day.
